 Abstract:  Joshua Stow was an original shareholder in the Connecticut Land Company and commissary on the Moses Cleaveland surveying party in the Western Reserve. The ollection consists of a summary of expenses for surveys in the Western Reserve for the Connecticut Land Company; letters from Jared Mansfield, Samuel Storrs, Joseph Beebe, Oliver Beebe, Leonard Case, Noah Newton, and from Henry Champion, a director of the Connecticut Land Company, concerning the southwest boundary of the Western Reserve; and papers concerning the survey of the Firelands by Maxfield Ludlow.

 Abstract:  Christopher Leffingwell (1734-1810) was a resident of Norwich, Connecticut, and William Leffingwell was a resident of New Haven, Connecticut. The collection includes correspondence and associated papers concerning Ohio Company land, and field notes for a survey of a township in the Ohio Purchase. Correspondents include Wheeler Coit, Samuel H. Parsons, David Putnam, Israel Putnam, Henry Strong, Peter Williams, and Dudley Woodbridge.

 Abstract:  John May (1748-1812) and his son, Henry Knox May, (1780-1865) were merchants and shippers in Boston, Massachusetts, and proprietors of the Union Wharf (May's Wharf). John May was also a member and agent of the Ohio Company of Associates. His grandson, Edward Tuckerman May was an agent at the Boston Customs House. The collection consists of correspondence, financial accounts, receipts, speeches, estate papers, and other papers of John, Henry K., and Edward T. May, concerning John's land speculations, his work as land agent for the Ohio Company of Associates, his service with the Boston Militia in the Revolutionary War, and his business activities as wharfinger of Union Wharf (Boston); Henry's activities as agent for New England merchants in Alexandria, Va., and as merchant, shipmaster and wharfinger of Union Wharf (Boston); and Edward's work as Boston Custom House agent.

 Abstract:  Edward Tiffin (1766-1829) was a United States senator and first governor of Ohio. He was an early settler of Chillicothe, Ohio and also served as U.S. Commissioner of Public Lands (1812-1814) and Surveyor General of the Northwest Territory (1814-1829). He was also a lay preacher and a doctor. The collection consists of correspondence, commercial and legal documents, sermons, maps, surveys, and booklets of financial and medical prescription data.
